Musical walk through Zagreb
Thursday, 24 October 2024, 18-20 h
The series of seven city gardens, known as the Green Horseshoe, is not only the most beautiful part of the Lower Town but also a treasure trove of information about the musical life of Zagreb from the end of the 19th century to the present day. From Zrinjevac, past the Central Railway Station and the Botanical Garden to Trg Republike Hrvatske, there are palaces and public buildings of exceptional importance for the musical life of Zagreb. During the walk, we discover traces of diverse – not only artistic – music in these beautiful gardens and find out, for example, where Zagreb’s oldest sheet music and most valuable musical instruments are kept. The grand finale of the walk is on the “most cultural” square in Zagreb, whose history and present abound with music.
The walk is guided by musicologist Dr Nada Bezić, Head of the Library and Archives of the Croatian Music Institute and associate lecturer at the University of Zagreb Academy of Music. Participation is free of charge.
